Project update - September 2024

UPDATE ON PROPOSED URBAN ROAD SAFETY PROGRAM (URSP) – SUBIACO STATION AND SUBIACO EAST PRECINCTS

Community consultation was undertaken between Wednesday 26 June 2024 and Monday 5 August 2024.

The City advertised the proposals through multiple channels, including the City’s website and Facebook, along with the Subiaco Scene of The Post Newspaper. Project information was also shared via City’s e-newsletters sent to community members and businesses.

The City received a total of thirty (30) responses for the Subiaco Station precinct and nineteen (19) responses for the Subi-East precinct. Of the total forty-nine (49) responses received, thirty-six (36) were fully supportive of the proposal, seven (7) provided suggestions on other intersection improvements (not directly related to this project), and six (6) were not supportive of proposal.

Overall, 73.33% of respondents supported Subiaco Station precinct project and 73.68% supported Subiaco East Precinct project.

Next step - detailed design

The City evaluated all responses and given the overwhelmingly supportive feedback received, the City will proceed with the detailed design with the plan to complete the construction works by July 2025. The development of the detailed design will be shaped by the feedback received during the consultation period. Some feedback included suggestions that fall outside the scope of this project and may be considered as part of a separate project in the future. The FAQs provided on this page address some of the concerns raised by respondents.

The proposed treatment type, raised plateaus with a gentle slope of 1:20 was chosen to reduce the impact on on-street parking, cycling and bus movements. The placement of these plateaus was carefully considered and placed at appropriate locations to enhance safety and reduce vehicle speeds to below 40 km/h.

The proposed wombat crossing on Station Street will facilitate easy and safe pedestrian crossings in the area. A wombat crossing is similar to a zebra crossing with a raised platform.

The updated concept plans can be viewed in the document library. The final detailed design will be published in the City’s website.

A further notification will be provided to all affected properties once the construction commencement date is confirmed.
