The City of Subiaco values opportunities for our community to be active and get outdoors.

Over the years the City has received numerous requests for a pump track to be constructed to facilitate an alternative recreational activity to those currently available. Both the City's Public Open Space Plan and Rosalie Park Master Plan speak to increasing passive recreation activities at Rosalie Park.

In April/May 2023 we undertook a pulse survey to gauge community support for a recreation pump track, planned to be located in the north-east corner of Rosalie Park Reserve (see location photo in photo gallery).

This area has a natural bowl shape with a grassy terrain and mature trees. The pump track will work with the natural environment to retain all trees, with the track built around the existing trees. The natural bowl will enable a pump track to be constructed with minimal excavation.

The intent is to construct a modest pump track built of organic materials, that flows through the natural landscape.

Have your say

An online survey was open between Friday 28 April and 5pm Thursday 25 May 2023. Thanks to those who took part in the consultation.

AS part of this survey you can nominate to be part of the planning group that will be consulted as this project progresses, if you wanted to be part of this group, please contact us here.

In May 2024 the City engaged further with those who nominated to the part of the planning stage. This information will be provided to the design consultants to further develop the pump track concept.

Update - August 2024

The final pump track concept is now available to view.

Any questions please contact the City's Operations and Environment Services on parks@subiaco.wa.gov.au or 9237 9222.

Thanks again to those who took part in the consultation for this project. All comments from the May 2024 community consultation were provided to the pump track designers (Three Chillies Design) for consideration in the final concept.

The main comment and concerns raised during the consultation periods were in relation to safety management of a dual direction track and the request for more advanced tracks and jumps to also to be included/considered for Rosalie Park in the future.

    Dual direction safety management

    • Three Chillies Design have taken the communities comments on board and the final design of Trail 1 has been constructed with 'traffic management' in mind for rider safety in terms of design elements for a beginner-suitable pump track. Trail 1 has been created with alignments that do not have quick, numerous or unexpected directional changes, which minimises the risk of collisions.
    • Trail 1 is planned with a simple layout that will not cause confusion and will be suitable for beginners (but also an enjoyable ride for all skill sets).
    • The track is designed to have clear sightlines along all sections to maintain rider awareness, and will incorporate a track that its designed and constructed to be wide enough for two riders to pass each other if need be (usually 1.5m minimum).

Advanced tracks and jumps to also to be included/considered - currently unfunded/not budgeted for

    • Three Chillies Design have also developed a Master Plan (in project document library) following the communities comments received back during the stage 1 and 2 of the community consultations. The Master Plan includes additional Trails with varying jumps and tracks that cater for more advanced skill levels, within the same site location. These additional Trails are currently unfunded and have not been budgeted for in City’s capital works program. The City will revisit the additional Trails following the completion of this Trail 1 pump track, and how well it is received and utilised by the community.

    Additional info and timeframe

    • The design will include an accessible path into the pump track off the existing Onslow Road footpath.
    • The course will be designed to blend into the natural environment utilising the natural typography and being constructed from mostly organic material.
    • Pump track construction (Trial 1) is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.

Keep your eye on the City of Subiaco’s website and Facebook for future updates.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact the City's Parks and Environment Team on 9387 0942 or city@subiaco.wa.gov.au (with the subject 'Pump track').

Between 28 April and 25 May 2023 community consultation was undertaken to seek response to a proposed Rosalie Park pump track project. The City received a sizable response rate of 237 submissions, with the majority of people local to Shenton Park. Of the 237 submissions, 97% were supportive of a pump track being constructed in Rosalie Park.

During consultation many valuable comments, concerns and suggestions were raised. Please see the City's response to the feedback here.

Due to the high level of positive community support, the project will now proceed to request for quote. Participants who indicated that they would like to take part in further consultation will be invited to assist in refining the design with the appointed contractor.
