FAQs
What is the park hierarchy?
Within our Playspace Strategy the distribution of parklands throughout City of Subiaco is guided by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) defined park hierarchy of local, neighbourhood, or district parks.
Park hierarchy relates to size and expected visitor catchment. Visitors to local or neighbourhood parks are most likely to be people who live within walking or cycling distance. Whereas district park may attract visitors from further afield, and it is reasonable to expect that many visitors will drive to access these larger parks
How does this consultation process work?
In the Stage one consultation survey we want to understand who currently uses the playground and what kinds of elements and features you would like to see there. This survey closes at 5pm on Monday 2 October 2023.
We will analyse the feedback from Stage one and supply to playground companies to develop their playground concept design options. Consideration will also be given to the City’s Playspace Strategy, industry guidelines and other factors such as budget.
In Stage two of the engagement process we’ll work with the group of community members who took part in Stage one to assess the design options and work to select the preferred playgrounds for the four spaces.
What type of equipment will be installed?
These four playground renewals are budgeted for 'like for like' capital replacement. In most cases the playground footprint will remain the same and the exact type of equipment or style of play will be determined during the consultation process.
I did not take part in Stage one consultation but still want to have my say
If you didn't take part in Stage one but want to be part of the project consultation group, please contact us here.
I am affiliated with a playground equipment company, can I take part?
If you work or are affiliated with a playground company who is likely to supply a design option for one of these playgrounds, you are ineligible to take part in the consultation process. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact us here.
When can I use the new playgrounds?
Playground supply and installation is anticipated to start before the end of the 2023/2024 financial year.
We’ll provide updates here on Have Your Say Subiaco as the project progresses. The playgrounds will be closed for a few weeks during construction.
How can I ask questions about the project?
To speak to someone in the Parks and Environment Services Team, please contact the Coordinator Parks Development on 9387 0942 or city@subiaco.wa.gov.au (with the subject 'Playground renewals').
