Rankin Road playground upgrade
Consultation for this project has now concluded. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
Play enables children to learn about themselves, others and the world around them. The City of Subiaco values facilitating quality play opportunities through our best practice approach to playground provision, maintenance and inspection to provide diverse and rich play experiences for our community.
At the City we encourage community involvement to inform our decision making, and we invite you to participate in our consultation for the replacement of the Rankin Road playground, located in Rankin Reserve on the corner of Rankin and Railway roads, Shenton Park.
The replacement of the play equipment will be guided by community input, available budget and the City's Playspace Strategy.
Update - April 2023
The new playground (and dog agility) is open and ready to play!
All of the playground equipment has been replaced, and now reflects a railway theme due to its proximity to the train line, and its original theming when it was constructed in the 1960’s.
The new play equipment includes monkey bars, a mini rock-climbing wall, a slide, swing set and plenty of other fun obstacles.
The dog agility area includes a bridge, hurdles, a jump through, and weave poles.
Thank you to those who took part in the community consultation and helped make this happen.
How can I be involved?
Stage two consultation - complete
The City had a wonderful response to the playground design tender based on the community feedback we received during stage one consultation. We now have eight playground design options to choose from, and it's time for our community to vote. Voting closed on Monday 14 November 2022.
Please note: as Rankin Reserve is also a dog exercise area, some of the playground design options include fences, while others have orientated the playground components to create an informal barrier on the dog exercise side.
How to vote:
- Review the pictures of the eight options in the image library.
- Read the inclusions/summary at the start of the survey.
- Let us know your playground preference via the voting survey here (opens Monday 31 October until Monday 14 November 2022).
Stage one consultation - complete
We asked the community to compete an online survey to let us know how they currently use the playground. The survey closed on Monday 25 July 2022. This information will now be provided to playground suppliers to inform the design concepts for the space. Stage one consultation results can be viewed here.
Timeline
The timeline for the upgrade of the Rankin Road playground is approximately six months, allowing for the supply and installation of the playground parts with completion anticipated to be before the end of 2022.
