Overall the City of Subiaco received 42 survey responses for this stage of community consultation.

Result summary

  • 35.7% of respondents either don't use the playground or didn't know it was there.
  • 19% of respondents use the playground most days.
  • 19% of respondents use the playground once a week.
  • Most playground users are aged between 6 and 8. Followed by those aged between 3 and 5.
  • 74.4% of respondents also brought a dog to the Reserve when they visited.
  • Overall the preferred playground style was Nature play with a focus on natural elements and textures.

Specific community comments/themes

  • There were concerns over interaction with dogs and the playground, with a reluctance to take small children to the Reserve.
  • Requests for monkey bars and/or other equipment to challenge the upper body.
  • Suggestion for a train/rail theme to connect the areas heritage.
  • A special thanks to a budding designer 'Claudia' for her well planned space. This information will be also used for other projects in the coming years.

Next steps

  1. A Request for Quote (RFQ) to design a new playground has been released, and the scope included the community feedback.
  2. The city will then review the RFQ submissions received.
  3. These will then be shared with the community through stage 2 of community consultation, where you can vote on your preferred option, and make comments.
  4. The preferred design will then be awarded.
  5. The new playground will be installed.

The supply and installation of the playground parts is anticipated to be completed before the end of 2022.
